I Need Serious Help with T.S. Eliot!!!?

If it's a metaphor, what does a "soul stretched tight across the skies" mean? If you can't find a meaning to that, and I can't, then it might be that it's used just for hyperbole to mean that the speaker, his emotions and being, is very stressed out living in a city, and using hyperbole helps get the reader to understand how stressed out he is.
